The other night I did a pencil drawing........."Girl With Dreadlocks" below..........
Then I decided I'd scan and work in Photoshop Elements......adding color...I love doing that. Sometimes I like the results, sometimes I don't.
I wasn't happy with her hair even after smudging it...(I didn't want full color)...so I just stopped. I started to change affects.....various artistic looks.... but didn't really like any of them. It wasn't until I began to play with lighting that I started to see my drawing evolving in to something brand new.
It took on a tribal feel, almost batikish.......
This was the first one.....below and I was truly loving the evolution.
I changed the background and the lighting angles so she almost glowed from within
In this next one I again adjusted lighting and angles....it rendered her a look like she was emitting some sort of internal wisdom
In the next one below I somehow managed to get the colors to really change and it looked as though a light had been switched on high.
So I kept going......in the one below the background has the same look but the hues are darker and deeper - I like how the edges in these look almost gold.
In this next one below there is a liquid feeling too it, the hues changed slightly and the edges have a more amber tone....
Finally in the image below I adjusted something in error and what resulted was a look as if she were in mid morph..........as if her inner wisdom was caught between the inside and the outside. The colors all changed and I'm not sure I like it....although it IS different.
It's fascinating what can be achieved by the simple act of experimentation.
Those happy accidents that leave you saying "hmmmmm, I really like this and I wasn't even going for that look". I love when that happens!
My plan is now to print these on fabric and do a wall hanging at some point ,incorporating some actual batik fabrics and possibly adding beading and other embellishments a long the way.
We'll see, I don't want to PLAN too much......just let it flow.
I hope everyone had a pleasant weekend!
Love,
Lisa
