Once again a week goes by in the flash of a second.....it's just insane how fast the days go by. We have been so caught up with ALL the projects on the list that I barely have time to do anything else, much less blog. I so miss being a good blogger friend, visiting and commenting like days of yore. I tell you I have fab intentions but time...time is the issue. I am not getting the visitors here on my blog that I used to and I so GET IT. Please know I appreciate even ONE comment and for those who stop by silently I appreciate you as well! (I heart you all) I so LOVE the blogger connections I've made over these last 5 years - I will do my best to maintain those....I WILL .......so please hang in there with me!!
Here's one check off the to-do list......
Last week the guy came to move our shed in the backyard. I was quite amazed that only ONE man showed up to do this job but he has it down to a science! So here are the sequence of events in moving about 3,000 lbs about 20+ feet with a flat bar, a log and some 2x4's....and strength. We've had a lot of rain lately and we were so grateful it held off until the shed was moved that day. (click photos to enlarge)
Here he jacks up one end to insert 2x4's
setting 2x4's for turning to face the house
If you live in the area from Sacramento to San Jose (he even goes to Santa Cruz)...and you need a shed moved on the property or off the property taken to a new location, I'd call Bill. He is THE NICEST guy, he's quick and efficient and clearly knows what he's doing! (NO, this is NOT a paid endorsement)
As you can see our backyard is void of landscaping, it's dry and weedy with excess gravel right now BUT it won't always be that way. We (I) decided the shed should face the house AND it's going to get a bit of makeover too. But instead of talking about what I WANT to do I'll just show you after we do it. PLUS this is going to be my studio I think.....especially when it gets tweaked a bit. Lollie and Lallie (my meyer lemon trees) will get planted out there along with other things we have in mind. We are also putting in a black iron fence to the left of the "shed" to make an area for a dog run that will go the length of the back of the yard. So besides working on the living room we have all that to contend with too.........it just never ends does it?
I have been painting furniture - well so far you saw the dresser. Wish I had known about this paint before doing the dresser.
Anyway, I painted the inside back of a new antique piece we bought (will show in a future post), I am going to be painting an end table and the exposed wood on an armless chair for the living room next. The paint I am using is called Chalk paint created by Annie Sloan of the UK.
So far I have the color "Provence" with "Paris Gray" arriving this week and "Old White" on order. I have the dark wax but the clear is on B/O but coming soon. It dries very flat but evidently the wax really brings out the color more AND it sands really easily to give it that weathered look which I love. (no peely/roley bits like latex tends to do)
There are stockists in the US you can order from and I found out about it from some DIY blogs. It's amazing stuff as it can be painted over ANYTHING without having to prime first.........even glossy surfaces like stained mahogany. After it dries you wax and buff (that's a step I haven't done yet) and it's durable. There is a bit of sticker shock as it's a spendy quart BUT it goes a long way and I am LOVING IT! I am even thinking of painting the kitchen island now as it's dark stained and I won't have to sand it all down first. Check out the site, read about it and you may get hooked too!
(Again, this is NOT a paid endorsement)
So you see why the days go by so fast and why when I lay my head down to sleep at night my brain just whirls around with ideas, things I need to do and want to do and more. Right now I am waiting on some fabric samples for part of the living room curtains I am making AND awaiting an estimate to reupholster our sofa. Anyone in the area know of a good upholsterer that isn't out of this world expensive???
OH and some day I HAVE to fit some art in there as I am feeling artistically parched without it!
I can't wait to show you the fruits of our labor!
Have a spectacular day!!!
