A Puppy, A Gift and a Sketch

 Hi everyone, it's Sadey. Guess what? Yesterday I turned ONE year old.

I got lots of hugs and kisses which is all I ever want....actually I like to jump up and give kisses but my parents don't like me to do that. It's hard because I just love people.

I can still be a bit of a maniac (whatever that means) BUT I am getting better and if I could be in the house 24 hrs a day that would be fine with me. I just have this one little problem and that is I like to grab and chew stuff (I can't help it, I'm a puppy). The other day I nearly got ahold of my Mom's thing called an IPhone...oooo man, not good. So I am going to practice restraint (ha!) and one day I will get to roam the whole house. My Mommy would like me to hang out with her in her studio but there are lots of tempting things in there for a one year old so I can't yet.

They love me but sometimes they get really mad at me...I don't know why it's such a big deal to chew on the house trim or dig all those holes in the backyard or chew on the patio rug or pull out the stuffing from a chair that was going to Goodwill. I mean just because I chewed the cord to the shopvac to bits......I mean so what, right?

Oh no, someone's coming.....they don't know I am using the computer and now there's drool on the keys. I need to get to the other room, lay down and look cool.

oh and P.S. this is the one they call Lucy and I want her to be my friend one day (we go nose to nose and sniff each other) The other one called Daisy doesn't like me at all so I am not going to show her picture. so there!

 
 

Well, Well, I wondered where Sadey went while I was making coffee....that little scamp.

Well anyway, I wanted to share a gift I received in the mail this week....soooo sweet and sooo thoughtful and so much heart obviously went in to the making of it.

This is the card with a necklace that hangs on black cording. The heart is made of clay and on the other side stamped in to the clay is One World One Heart 2011.

 
She also included this book....about 4x6, covered in fabric and trims and padded with this lovely plaque on the front and on the inside is this:

 
Each page is felt and then the images are coated and the weight of a coaster....I am thinking she put each image on clay and sealed it. There are 5 pages and each one is the logo for OWOH beginning with 2007 and ending with this years for 2011.

This gift is such a meaningful gift and as it said was made with a great deal of heART. I will treasure it always Pat, THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! and Thank you for being a part of OWOH!! I feel so embraced!

I find myself going back to the big-headed characters I did in the past. This one doesn't have a story......

but I DO plan on continuing the story of Felicity Pentwhistle (see post below)......thank you to those who actually read the first part. I LOVE writing and sometimes I like to share it though I know reading a loooooong post can be tedious.

I hope you are all having a good week....can you even wrap your brain around the fact it's March already??? Soon it will be Spring....I love Spring when the days are clear but cool, the sun is out but not hot....blooms are peeking out from the earth and people tend to smile more.

The first day of Spring is March 20th here in the Northern Hempisphere.

 

Celebrating a birthday AND celebrating art.........

Well hello....once again it's been days since I last posted. But you know how it is when time just gets away from you. I trust all my blogging friends are enjoying summer and are, yourselves, keeping busy with everyday life.

This past Saturday we went to a lovely 60th birthday party for a friend of ours who we love dearly. We met her and her husband and family through mutual friends 10 years ago and the connection was instant. A loving person with a heart of gold! The kind of person you meet that you just know will always be in your life.

 

There was live music.....fantastic live music provided by her husband (that's him playing guitar) and his band mates.

Below is the 12"x12" painting I did as my gift to her

It represents her "embracing her age"...the calender page is actually July 1950. I was so delighted at how much she liked it. There is nothing like giving a gift from the heart.

We were so happy to be able to share that day and marinate in all the love that surrounded her!

I have been painting in a blissful reverie standing in front of my easel listening to music lately. Below is one I finished last week.

I have another I am revamping that I did some time ago and then another ready to begin that is much larger. I seem to be gravitating towards the same colors lately and cannot explain why except that's what seems to call to me. I am planning to reopen my Etsy shop soon with some original paintings and prints of recent watercolors and past illustrations. I've been saying this forever and it's about time I actually DO it! You know the old saying "nothing ventured, nothing gained."

Sometimes just when you thought one thing, another thing happens......

I am a very lucky woman. I am married to my best friend, we still hold hands after 32 years together and we still rather like one another. We rarely fight but we do bicker occasionally. We never go to bed angry and we genuinely enjoy one anothers company.
My love does all the cooking.

ok, so I added the hat and the words on his tee shirt...

He cooks a mean omelet and a shrimp dish to die for. He's really gotten into trying various new things to up his repertoire and would love a professional oven and stove. He says cooking relaxes him and I think there is a self satisfaction he gets when creating a good meal.
I am very grateful as although I know how to cook it is not something I enjoy doing.

My love knows how a vacuum works, how to clean a toilet, scrub a dish and how to corral the dust bunnies...AND is THE tool man...can fix most anything. He is not in to gender specific roles within a couple, meaning he just hates it when he hears men say "that's women's work". He's very progressive.
Neither one of us is the boss, we have an equal partnership.
 

Over the weekend my love (between rains)spray painted the top of a bakers rack we had so I could use  it in my studio(the bottom portion we used in the living room)......even going out to buy the paint first. He doesn't mind odd jobs and projects.

He always says I love you (even calling during the day just to say that)............and I admit to being spoiled by all that he does yet I NEVER for a single, solitary moment take him for granted. I ALWAYS make sure he knows he's appreciated and truly loved!
Yes, he's a definite phenom EXCEPT for one thing............
when it comes to gifts or romantic gestures he gets a bit muddled at times.

Now don't get me wrong, the gift of who he is as a person/husband far outweigh the wrapped present but there ARE times when a woman hopes for the unexpected.....the little gesture.....the "I saw this and thought of you" kind of thing. It's not that he doesn't want to......he's jsut always had a hard time figuring it out.
He used to want a list.  He used to need a list. And for the better part of 32 years I've tried to explain that what would thrill me doesn't require a list - surprise me. A heart shaped rock, a book about something that I love, a silly little bobble that reminded him of something...a shell he saved from a trip to the beach......you know what I mean.  This past Fall he came in with a perfect Autumn leaf he found and when he saw it he knew I'd love it.........when he gave it to me I had tears. He was a bit perplexed. I tried to explain it to him and I think he finally understood.
I am not about baubles, bangles and beads. I am not about expensive. I am not about designer labels and store names on bags.  I am not about brand new even.  I am about the THOUGHT even if it's something completely silly!
Sooooooooooooooo......imagine my surprise on Valentine's Day.....something we usually don't buy in to as we like to think that's every day.....
when that morning he made a lovely breakfast and with it came this:

A tiny, shiny, sparkly wee box the size of a pill box! It is so much more colorful in person and I absolutely LOVE it, in fact I think it's magic!

Later in the day we decided to go antiquing so I popped in the shower and when I got out I hear him ask "did you put perfume on yet?" An odd question - but he knows I NEVER leave home without some...."yes I did, why?"


He takes this from behind his back.....my signature scent...........and I've been out of it for months!!!! I did my little happy clap as I also looked at him in shock!  "Wow, TWO presents????" his response "all for you!" .......more tears.
We had a lovely day out, no rain..........we went from shop to shop not finding what we were looking for but enjoying the time nonetheless. We then went out for a delish seafood dinner and drinks and we held hands across the table( that last part isn't unusual).
Later that evening, home and cozy as it had begun to pour rain again I was doing something in my studio and went back to the living room so we could watch a movie.
BUT WHAT'S THIS????
There on the sofa was a wee box..........I looked at it and then I looked at him. "What's this?" and he shrugged with a silly grin on his face.  I bent over him and pulled down one of his eyes "Are you in there?" I asked in panic??
"OMG, the pod people came and took over your body didn't they?" "G! are you in there?"


Now don't misunderstand, he's a wonderful man, I am not at all demanding and truly it's NOT that I have to be showered with gifts ( he IS the gift and so is the love we share) but I think you women out there will know what I am talking about.
I sat and opened the box, pulled out this bracelet and my mouth fell open and the tears came AGAIN (ok, I admit it, I am a weeper).......because the first thing that popped in to my mind after all that happened that day was................ HE'S BEEN PAYING ATTENTION!



As we sat and watched the movie, heard the rain fall and little noises our cats make I couldn't help but look at him every now and then just to make sure he wasn't growing leafy limbs or that his eyes weren't turning neon yellow.
Nope, no alien........just my dear husband who I could tell was pretty darn proud of himself!

He called just now and I told him I was blogging about him.....the first thing he said was "the pod people didn't get me!" and he laughed!
Now that's a gift!
