I thought I would share some of the finished pages in my sketchbook for the Sketchbook Project (see upper right side bar). Although it's called a sketchbook my pages are coming out more like an art journal, that's the beauty of this as each persons little book will be different. The theme I had chosen (you had to pick one or have them send it to you random) was "I'm Sorry I Forgot You". That can be interpreted in so many ways and some of what you will see may not make any sense to you in terms of that theme. I'm not going to explain...... :) (the rules say: The themes are supposed to be a starting point, not a restriction, so don't feel smothered by it.
The books pages were VERY thin and you are able to alter it as long as it keeps the original dimensions. I chose to paste over the pages with a watercolor paper which significantly enlarged and skewed the book and it's ability to fold right(I didn't think it through properly). I ended up having to remove some pages but at least what remains are sturdy enough to accept acrylic paint and watercolor and other mediums now. Thankfully this isn't a rigid project thereby giving each participant the ability to make it their own while still keeping within the original front and back covers.
If you are participating I hope you will show some of your pages and if you do please let me know in a comment.
These are all I will show until after it's finished and sent on to NY.
The other day my good friend C and I met for a drink and a nosh. Afterwards we went to the parking lot and sat below this pepper tree to continue our conversation. It was rather warm that day and the tree provided shade and a cement area all around it you can sit on. It wasn't until we stood really looking at this monolith that she noticed the bees buzzing from inside a wide V in the tree. I am assuming there is a hive but it was not your typical round enclosed hive that we could see.
The tree is HUGE and made me think a Swiss Family Robinson tree house could be built within its branches. I have no idea how old it is but it's truly amazing. Can't you see it on some deserted island, platforms and pullys and rooms allowing for views far and wide along an empty coast line. (instead of a parking lot for a shopping area). A telescope letting you watch the waters for pirates! Oh but there is one pirate I'd allow to share my tree house....
YO HO, YO HO.
(I am really round the bend now, but I KNOW there are those out there that share my sentiments about that guy)
I thought I'd get better at posting more often but it looks like I'm not quite there yet. I do have good intentions though.
In the meantime my lovelies I do hope you're having a smashing week and approaching an even more smashing weekend!
See you soon!
