I wasn't going to post again until next week but I really want to recommend this movie.
This movie was released in October 2007 - I did not see until last night. It will stay with me always.
If you have not seen nor heard of this movie you simply MUST rent it! It will touch your heart, it will fill your heart, it will make you want to see it again......and again. At least that is what it did for me.
The astounding part is that this movie is based on a true story taken from an original short story/novel written by David Gerrold (normally a science fiction writer) about his decision to adopt a child alone.....a child who had been abandoned at the age of 3 months and spent years in the foster care system. The Martian Child, was broken and chose a way to survive that worked for him.............unconditional love saves him........it saves both of them.
It made me stop to realize just how many children spend their lives being shuttled from one "household" to another..........never really belonging anywhere. How so often they are labeled "difficult" and "unable to place" or "undesirable" when the fact is they are lacking the most fundamental element of survival...........to be loved........and it's never been their fault.
This movie is about blind faith, it's about hope, it's about not giving up,
it's about love in its deepest form from parent to child - child to parent. John Cusack is amazing as David (the father) - Bobby Coleman BEYOND amazing as the Martian Child. I think the casting in this movie was spot on!
So get on Netflix or Blockbuster or run to your local video store(or wherever you get your movies) this weekend and rent this movie.....I cannot imagine for a second that you will be disappointed you did.
Be sure to watch the special features afterward - Bobby Coleman who plays the Martian Child is so captivating, not only in this role, but as himself - you will fall in love. He was 7, turned 8 during the filming but I think he has a much older soul! and it's wondeful to see how they bonded as the movie progressed. You will also get a chance to see an interview with David Gerrold (who wrote the book) and his son, the now grown Martian Child.
I don't often post movie reviews (although we rent many)......but I knew last night I'd post about this one today.
Ok enough of my gushing............here, watch the trailer.......and If you have already seen this movie OR you go and rent it and see it now.........I would love to know what YOU think!
See you next week, have a wonderful weekend!
XOXOXO
Love,
Lisa
