This weekend G built me a plywood light box. It's 24" wide and 20" tall and 16" deep.
View looking down. He even caulked the seams and painted it a few coats of white. You can barely see on the one side at the top but he drilled a hole on either side and cut down an old brass curtain rod that fits across. This way I can hang "theater" curtains for a different set up....or use it to hang things on fishing line to photograph.
I happened to go to Shibori Girl's blog yesterday and lo and behold she'd made one from a cardboard box she'd found in a tutorial........very effective. Funny we were on the same wave length! What I got from her post was the link to the lights I wanted and so they are on their way. Thanks Kate!
I will be covering the top and the openings on either side with white fabric and using foam core I will also create various backgrounds I can slip in if I don't want just plain white. All of this is going to enable me to take much better photos of my art. I don't have very good backgrounds around my house and proper lighting is always an issue. So YAY to G for being so handy - he is THE TOOL MAN - and not minding the occasional "honey-do" list.
I went to TJMaxx last week and there in the housewares department (which is where I go first) I see this bird cage. It stopped me in my tracks as I looked it over, touched it, opened the door at the bottom. It's VERY tall and it's truly awesome. I could see it painted white with handmade birds flying and perched inside or acrobat art dolls swinging from the perch. I pictured covering the bottom with bright fabric..... I walked around it and then got out my camera......you see the only way I'll actually have this beauty is in a photo. The price tag was $200!! I walked away knowing it was out of the realm of possibility to plunk down that much money for what was basically a whim and not a necessity. Sometimes we have to be practical you know.........but it doesn't mean it doesn't suck!
Oh well, such is life. But isn't it divine?
This morning I went out to the kitchen to see Daisy batting something around and then I see it......it's a a pencil!!! Was she planning to sketch? Write a to-do list? Write her memoirs? She's a little thief, that one, nothing is safe if she can find a way to get to it and then basically it becomes a hockey puck. Eventually if I don't see it in time it can be found under the refrigerator or the stove. The land of lost cat fancies. Lucy on the other hand can spend 20 minutes straight just batting around a piece of cat food. These girls are too much!
I'm busy working on 2 more art dolls.........don't they look odd and misshapen right now? Kind of like strange looking body builders whose workouts went terribly wrong. But they won't BE body builders when they're done....in fact who knows who they will become because these things tell ME who they are as the process unfolds....I just roll with it. I'm working on their heads next and that's when they really start to speak to me. I don't always begin with a definitive plan. Do you?
Oh and speaking of art dolls.........someone is getting VERY famous these days. Click here and see what I mean. It's all very swoonalicious!!!
OH and one more thing..........do you want to swoon some more? Well you just have to go visit the VERY talented Michelle at The Mosaic Cottage. She has created an AMAZING and to die for Fairy House, I can't stop looking at it and seeing things I missed the first time! She isn't called the Mosaic Queen for nothing my friends! I have one of her sublime cupcakes - fabulous!
So there you go, sometimes it IS all about all sorts of things going on that grab ones attention!
Have a most delightful start to the new week!
XOXOXO
