(these pixies were made by my Mom MANY years ago...much of their embellishments have fallen off)
Christmas was chill.........just BohoHandyman and I (and all 3 animals).....and you know what? It was perfect because we were together and we made a roast dinner in the crockpot, we watched a couple more Christmas movies and I baked goodies. It was sincerely the first time in a few years I didn't spend the day feeling sad......I let myself just be in the moment and it felt good to just be grateful we have one another.
When I was a kid my friend and I would get on the phone right away on Christmas asking "so what did you get for Christmas?" It was all about what doll or game or clothes or what have you. In the last 7 years BohoHandyman and I haven't really done gifts........it's just the way it went with it being so difficult for me to even get in to it. BUT what I realized this year is that the real gift comes in a very different form.....it doesn't come in fancy wrapped paper or a frantic shopping trip or worry if it will be well received. The gift comes directly from the heart that you love and are loved. I'd say that's worth its weight in piled packages under the tree. Don't you? It just took me a while to get here.
There is a line in the movie An Affair to Remember where Deborah Kerr says "winter must be cold for those with no warm memories". This year I made a concious effort to embrace my warm memories and I truly think my Mom is up there feeling ever so glad.
Pumpkin bread........moist and delish. Black Bottom Cupcakes sinfully delish. And my clean up man......very delish!
P.S. Don't forget Our World Our Art is coming February 11, 2013....read all about it HERE.
