SIGHT
First as pertaining to my absence.....I've been working on an art project and, as is typical of me, I completely and totally let it take over every minute. I started with some canvas fabric and cut out the shape of a head (leaning to one side of course) and drew a face on it with pencil finishing the edges to stop some of the raveling......
I wasn't even sure what I was going to do - I stared at it for a while thinking hmmm...... and then it took on a life of it's own. I will show the finished product soon. It will hang on my kitchen wall.
SMELL
I was talking to BohoHandyman the other night about my imagination and how I can smell things that are not there.
Have you ever watched something on TV or in a film or saw a photo on the internet and you can actually smell it? Or perhaps it's a descriptive passage in a book.
Like this
I can smell the campfire. I can actually smell the wood burning.
Or something like this
I can smell the lavender..........intoxicating lavender.
And sometimes it is something like this
I can smell the divine scent of fresh baked bread
Or perhaps it might be this - not a lovely scent at all
Or THIS
The sea air.......the kelp.......
There is this strange olfactory sense that is heightened from images - moving or otherwise - that happens to me.
Does that happen to you?
It could be the smell of oranges or a perfume or the wet forest or even a hideous smell.........the mind sees it and in a way I cannot explain........renders that smell as if it were in the room with you or you are there. Strange but true. I know when I turn to BohoHandyman and say "I can actually smell that" he looks at me like "hmmm, uh ok". He doesn't have that olfactory sense.
And then there's the MEMORY of smell..........where you smell something and immediately it can take you back.....to childhood, a particular happening in your life, a person, a place and so on. You can close your eyes......inhale and you are transported back in time. The mind has such an amazing ability, does it not?
It can also happen without something you are seeing or that is right in front of you. Can you close your eyes and recall something and actually smell the scent of that memory. Conjuring up the scent with only your minds eye.
Try closing your eyes and think of sheets blowing in the wind hanging on the line and recall their fresh scent. Think of a cool glass of lemonade on a hot day and recall the fresh scent of the lemons - whatever it is you can let yourself go and it will come to you.
Let your olfactory sense transport you or just look at images (moving or otherwise) and see if YOU can smell what you see by using your mind to awaken that sense.
It's crazy isn't it!
If this were a smellablogvision I would be sharing the scent of the lavender, the fresh baked bread, the ocean breezes and 2 of my favorite perfumes:
