The movie poster for her first starring role
Coco relaxing between packing, phone calls and making travel arrangements
Coco arrives at her movie premiere in London, she was extremely jet legged as a delayed flight meant changing in the airport prior to getting in the limo to the theater.
Scenes from Dipahanous, Coco's first starring role. The premise to the movie is being kept top secret. The reviews are more than she had hoped for and the audience gives the film a standing ovation. Coco cannot bask in the limelight long as she has to hop another flight back to the states.
After another delayed flight she makes it to her hotel room in Aspen, her eyes burning from fatigue she takes out her contacts and sleeps for ten hours straight. She spends 2 1/2 days hiding out.
Coco finds the cold air and pure white snow to be just what she needed. She managed to dodge the paparazzi and take a long walk among the trees getting herself mentally ready for her next premiere.
After some anonymous shopping and walking by day Coco reads her book and drinks hot chocolate by night. She contemplates the price of sudden fame.
Coco arrives at the next premiere a bit more rested but still not comfortable with all the flashbulbs and people yelling her name. Even though a friend says the sunglasses draw more attention she doesn't remove them until the lights dim in the theater. She doesn't want anyone to see she's been crying.
The next morning Coco goes out to grab some air and buy a newspaper. She knows the hotel will get her anything she needs but she isn't used to be people doing for her. In her naive state she doesn't realize the paparazzi are outside waiting for her and she has to run in the rain to get away from them.
She truly begins to rethink this life she finds herself in as she enters a back entrance to return to the hotel.
She had one more party to attend that night. The Vanity Fair during and after the Academy Awards. Luckily she was too new to the scene to be invited to the Oscars themselves but a friend insisted she attend the after party with him for some "see and be seen".
She met many stars, if only to shake their hands and say she was a fan. She felt like a teenager who snuck in back stage at a rock concert. All she wanted to do was go home, put on her jammies and watch the coverage on TV like she always did.
Finally, feeling a little displaced Coco left the party at around 1:30 in the morning and took a cab back to her hotel. The cab driver asked if she was a movie star....she paused before answering.... "I'm not sure".
She got in the shower washing off the makeup and all the hair products and stood under the running water until it turned cold. She thought about sitting at a table drinking champagne watching anyone who was anyone walk in and mingle. She felt like a fish out of water indeed.
Coco laid awake most of the night, tossing and turning ....she was berating herself for acting like some childish whiner. How many actresses would love to be in her position? She just starred in a movie, she had premieres! She went to the Vanity Fair party and shook hands with Sean Penn for crying out loud....and he'd seen and liked her film!!! How many times growing up had she performed for her parents or the neighborhood kids or practiced her acceptance speech in to a hair brush? Here she was with the biggest break of her career and she was whining about having people want to get her photo.
Just as she suddenly felt grateful and happy and oh so lucky the phone rang............
The phone call that would change EVERYTHING!!!
Love,
Lisa
