I like fashion.
I used to watch fashion trends in the magazines and view collections on Style.com.
I like to see what comes from someones drawing table. It would be amazing to collaborate with someone during the sketching process and choosing the fabrics and details.
This is probably why I love Project Runway so much.
I think a good designer is an artist, with vision and a point of view.
A REALLY good designer takes all body types and lifestyles in to consideration and sets reasonable and attainable trends.
Not all Fashion is wearable, some of it is for pure aesthetic value, like a museum or art piece. Where the designer took full artistic abandon and created something so strange yet so beautiful at the same time.
Most designer wear is untouchable to the average person...price points alone can deter even the most in touch woman, not to mention sizes that could only fit Scarlett O'Hara's 18" waist.
I am drawn to certain "looks" because they speak to me, speak to the woman/girl I am inside. "If I had that "perfect" body type" always comes to mind. Because let's face it, MOST designers or trend setters play to the very thin, the very tall and of course the very rich.
I have fashion "moods" in what I gravitate towards on line, in publications, in film and so on.
Anyway.....................
I recentIy came across a designers fashions that spoke to the bohemian in me - the colorful - the flowy side, it had me journeying around the interenet to see as much as I could.
The designer is a young woman named Biya Ramar. The brand is called JOHNNY WAS, JWLA (t-shirts), 3J among other brands under the Johnny Was umbrella. She and her team design tops, dresses, skirts, outerwear etc. and the size range runs the gamut. They are not catering to only that very thin person.
I don't know if their collections have been on the major runways or featured in a publication.....could have. I came upon all this truly by accident....a happy accident.
They use washable silks, rayon and are known for the embroidery and wonderful colorful fabric prints.
Said about them:
"Think … ultimate creations for urban bohemians and you will find the Johnny Was Collection by designer Biya Ramar. Biya infuses this timeless collection with a passion for women whose lifestyles embrace originality and creativity. Biya’s inspiration is derived from traveling the world and experiencing a variety of cultures.
This collection is designed for women who are confident, fun, about attitude not age and desire to make an individual statement expressed through personal style. Transcending a trend driven society Johnny Was is on the pulse of meeting today’s woman’s need by offering quality unique pieces."
These are but a few pieces.....you can click HERE and see a larger collection of styles and fabrics. I don't know if there are new things to come from this label but I like a lot of what I see that's out there now.
I know some may view these as perhaps throw backs to the 70's but I don't feel that way at all.......I don't think Bohemian ever really goes out of style. They have a gypsy-ish quality to them as well. The prices aren't inexpensive but they certainly aren't MAJOR DESIGNER prices either. There are sales going on AND as we speak I have one of the JW pieces arriving next week, yep, a birthday gift!!! WOOHOO!
It's not pictured on this blog BUT it is pictured in the link above....I wonder if you can figure out which one I chose.
Do you hide because of your body type? I do and subsequentlyt I miss out on a lot by doing that. If I said this once I've said it a thousand times, I am MORE than my dress size. So why not wear something that makes me happy and feels good against my skin and reflects who I am? A woman who is confident despite not being society's view of acceptable body type and shows that confidence when she walks in a room.......suddenly becomes less about her shape and more about the WOMAN she really is. I try to say that to myself in the mirror and I am getting closer and closer to believing it!
So what is YOUR style?
Do you have a look that pulls you in time after time? And do you wear it?
I hope you all are having a wonderful week so far! Thank you for the birthday wishes, they mean so much!
