In the course of this journey through garagapalooza we have uncovered all sorts of things (see previous post) as well as photos. There are still a few more bins to go through but they are mostly holiday (we think), it's amazing we have managed to get through so many already. The task is now going back through "keep" items and eventually organizing by type, properly marking them and properly storing them. But you don't need to hear all that.....AND the whole project has miles to go yet.
I thought since I put art on hold for just a bit I'd share some more photos for your amusement. When I think back on the many "looks and phases" of us (BohoHandyman and I) I just have to shake my head at hair styles, clothes styles, etc. that we have had over the last 33 years. I KNOW you all have these, those photos you look at and think "oh come on, did we really think this was a good look?" and "why oh why???" Some I don't mind but some.....oh people......I must say I cringe. Keep in mind I'm not able to use my scanner right now so I am having to take photos of the photos so quality is compromised.
So won't you take this trip down memory lane with me? Yet again.....
The first one is pre-BohoHandyman:
The same person who gave me the opera coat (see previous post) also had an old vintage wedding outfit from a relative of hers. She even had the photo of the person wearing it on her wedding day oh so many years ago. She let me try it on and it fit perfect - no she didn't give it to me - but she did let me wear it for this photo my friend Jake took. The outfit, though quite old, was in perfect condition and was a light cottony fabric...I say outfit because it was actually a blouse and skirt (wish you could have seen the bottom of it). The original wearer of this was obviously short like I am so the length was perfect too. {I am about 21 or 22 yrs old in this photoa and way smaller in size, see, no extra chins and you can actually see the cleft in my chin}
This is us in Minnesota winter(pre marriage)...I am holding my first puppy, her name was Sequoia who a few months later got out and I never found her again.... a neighbor later said they thought she got in someones car. So sad! See that Mexican sweater I'm wearing? That was my "winter coat", I made the bag I have on my shoulder and loved that skirt I was wearing.
This was taken by BohoHandyman on my parents back fence. (post marriage)The dress is one I made from one of those Folkart patterns of a real prairie dress.
This is my nephew and I....he was just under 2 or 3 and I made his Halloween costume that year. He is now the Daddy to my little love (see left sidebar pic). (note extremely permed hair after cutting off very long straight hair for this style - what was I thinking? I looked more clownish than he did - ha!)
I can hear the laughter people, I am laughing right along with you. This was taken in Yosemite in the late 70's and I can hardly find words to describe it. I guess I don't mind BohoHandyman's look so much, very mountain man for the time, but what the hell was I thinking in matching getup? All I can do is shake my head.....yet again. AND that permed hair - that bushy looking permed hair!
OK, I have no earthly idea WHY oh WHY? Country Western??? and we weren't wearing costumes. Taken in a house we rented in 1981. I guess it was all part of that "country" phase. BohoHandyman looks like he was channeling Kenny Rogers...eeeeww. (sorry to any Kenny fans out there) after having gone through the "mountain man" phase. Sorry for the poor picture quality but frankly who needs to see this any clearer? This time it was a shag like hair cut.
We had this taken (not sure of the year, late 70's) in Columbia Historic Park
And NO we didn't walk around dressed like that (although it wouldn't be surprising) - look how short my hair was. This is an old time gallery where they have costumes and props. It's a great old town in the Gold Country near Sonora. I lived up there right out of high school for a short time (but that's another story)
So that ends that.....for now..........you know I'll have more.
This final photo is something all together different
This is Jane Fonda (yes, THAT Jane Fonda) and my Mom in 1978. Jane spoke at a labor convention luncheon my parents attended and later my Mom had a chance to sit and chat with her for a while. My Mom said they talked about family and kids and found Jane to be very down to earth.
Love,
Lisa
XOXO
P.S. I am grateful you have stopped by and I always enjoy when you let me know you've been here. Have a wonderful start to your week!
oops ONE MORE
An old friend shared this with me on Facebook from a day trip we all went on. I should have had sunglasses on....squint, squint. This was probably late 70's and I remember making that dress.
OK DONE NOW!
