Before I talk about the puppy I'd like to ask you to send out healing thoughts, prayers, good vibes, light a candle or whatever works for you to my Glitter Sister Ninnie who recently was diagnosed with breast cancer. NO ONE wants to get that kind of news and she's going to be going through a lot starting now. So join me in waving some healing magic her way. Those who have been through this know what she's dealing with so any and all well wishes would be appreciated.

"Sadey and Lady" - Sadey either gnaws on her or lays on or with her for a nap, Lady is probably thinking "where's Tramp when I need him?"
Let me just say this, right here, right now....I look like road kill. My hair looks matted, I'm in jammies that I am embarrased to say I have had on now for 2 days. My eyes burn and I'm tired. Now you wouldn't think I'd be tired since BohoHandyman takes the night shift with Sadey BUT I do get up at 6 a.m. now. Example of tired haze, I got up bleary this morning....it was still fairly dark out and the house was quiet. I got up saw Sadey sleeping in her play pen and thought "how odd BohoHandyman would go to work and not say anything". Normal is to let me know he's leaving, give me a kiss, an I love you and he's off. SO of course I was a bit taken aback UNTIL I stumbled back to bed only to find he was IN it sleeping AND it was only 4 in the morning. I tell you people I don't know how women become parents LATE in life because just having a new puppy is reminding me I don't have the energy I used to.
Normally at 6 weeks puppies are still with their Mom and siblings. Normally they're being weaned and learning about socializing and biting and who's boss. BUT since Sadey's Mom didn't feel like being a Mom she didn't get those things. Now she's OUR baby and we have to remind ourselves she is basically an infant but with sharp teeth and a propensity to bite everything from ankles to my hair and anything standing still. (legs of chairs, edge of a rug, a shoe that was left visible....one of the cats tail) Also watching the clock......"it's been an hour, I better take her out". Trying to determine her poop (sorry folks but that's what they do) schedule and signs she may be ready. Remembering to praise often and scold when necessary. BUT she has not received the memo that WE are the bosses here. I point my finger at her and say NO and she will do an air bite or lift her paw in a pawing air motion. WHAT? This little black fur ball is NOT the boss of me!
Her crying and howling upon being placed in her play pen is lessening, still ear piercing at times but she quiets down faster now. phew!
Tonight she sees the vet for the first time for a basic check up on her over all health, but vaccinations and spaying come later. Hopefully she'll have much wisdom to impart about rearing this new member of the family. (I've also been reading a lot on the Internet) It's been 20 years since we had a puppy in the house so it's easy to forget we went through the biting phase and the accidents on the floor. It's like having another baby years later and forgetting what it was like to have an infant or for that matter a baby who is mobile. We had our dog for 14 years and she was the calmest, easiest. sweetest dog on the planet. (there again, we remind ourselves she started out like Sadey)
Those capiz shells and strands with mirrors hang on either side of the opening btwn the kitchen and living room and have for over 4 years. Sadey likes to take one in her mouth and walk away pulling it straight out. This is not good.
"NO bite!"
"NO Sadey!" (pointing finger)
"Come here Sadey, come here baby"
"Gooood Girl" (praise with a tiny treat)
"Outside, let's go outside"
"Go peepee Sadey, go poopoo Sadey" ......"good girl"
"Don't eat the rocks"
(we take her out on a leash only and she likes to try and eat it)
When it's time to come inside she SITS at the bottom of the 2 back steps tugging back in total defiance with me making a kissing sound tugging the leash a bit "come Sadey, come on girl" and then she hops up the steps and comes in. She is NOT the boss of me!
Daily vocabulary (above me alone with Sadey and below evenings talking to BohoHandyman or when he calls during the day)
"well she pooped at _______"
"she tried to eat her own foot"
"she chased the cat"
"She lept around the kitchen like a fawn"
"She won't let me hold her without her biting at my hair or trying to repierce my ears" (I think it's important we have cuddle time - ha!)
"She's curled up with Lady sleeping"
You get the idea.......
and we're only 4 1/2 days in to this.
"What? I didn't do anything, I'm just a puppy and I'm so cute. You must be talking about a different puppy............oops, I think I made a poopoo"
***********************
Thus is life right now with this new little life we absolutely adore and waiting patiently for the time to be right to start her in training class.
I better go try for a shower while the getting is good......according to the clock she will have to go out again soon.
I promise the next post won't be about the puppy.....well ok, at least not ALL of it.
Love,
Lisa
XOXO
P.S. Daisy wants nothing to do with the puppy. Lucy is much more curious and will stand nose to nose with her....SHE(Lucy) will be the one who shows who's boss!
P.S.S. I feel like those parents who want you to sit down and look at photos of their children......"here's Junior eating his first popsicle"......"here's Junior making a funny face"....."here's Junior on the potty"...."here's Junior holding the cat by the tail"
I guess it can't be helped. (if truth be told I enjoy seeing those pictures and hearing about a baby...but that's just me)
How sweet are you for reading to this point! And remember to keep Ninnie in your thoughts.
